While perusing the history archives I noticed that today’s date corresponded to the debut of some classic television shows from a kinder, gentler and sometimes black-and-white time. Let’s relive the good old days of unfolding the tv tray to hunker down with a Hungry-Man Meatloaf dinner and one of these small screen classics. God bless the Swansons. 56 years ago – In 1962, “The Beverly Hillbillies“ debuted on CBS. It was the #1 show on TV during its first two seasons. Here’s the first episode. Granny, Jed, and Elly May are dead, but Jethro is still with us. Max Baer is 81.
54 years ago – In 1964, “Gilligan’s Island“ debuted on CBS. Of the seven original castaways, only Ginger and Mary Ann are still with us: Tina Louise is 84 and Dawn Wells turns 80 next month.
50 years ago – In 1968, “Hawaii Five-O“debuted on CBS.
49 years ago – In 1969, “The Brady Bunch“ debuted on ABC.
48 years ago – Okay, I’m cheating a little here, but it’s from Sesame Street so I consider it qualified for the post- 1970, “Rubber Duckie“, by Ernie from “Sesame Street”, peaked at #16 on the pop singles chart.
