The Old Louisiana State Fair Speedway

The State Fair of Louisiana has been around over a century.  Thinking back to when I was a kid, there was a race track out on the Fairgrounds, and there was a State Fair race every year.  I’ve always heard that, the first NASCAR race west of the Mississippi River, was held in Shreveport at the fairgrounds speedway.  I would bet that (The King) Richard Petty’s father, Lee Petty, won that race.  That’s my bet, but I don’t know for sure.  There’s a cool website that a friend (Ernie) put together several years ago, with so many other cool sights around Shreveport over the past 100+ years.  I typed in the web address & noticed that Ernie’s website is still online.  Look around at old downtown Shreveport & other area places, at www.OldShreveport.com
