With the Holiday Season fast approaching, I’d like to once again call your attention to the non-profit Operation Support Our Troops. The Shreveport chapter, headed-up by Proud Army Mom Shirley Olivieri-Mathies, and consisting entirely of volunteers, works year-round to collect and send care-packages to servicemen and women overseas to offer a touch of home, moral support and encouragement. In other words, they send out the love, whether in the form of toiletries or snacks and treats not available in the field, but also in the form of cards and messages from those who care back at home. They’ve been at it over 14 years. Shirley has been a longtime listener of our Alpha stations and I can attest to the effort and dedication she and all the volunteers put into this undertaking. It’s a big-time part of their lives, and it’s pretty easy for all of us to help…volunteer to help pack and ship boxes, just drop-off some sundries, or put a check in the mail. Those in uniform who receive these packages will tell you, with no shortage of emotion, what a tremendous feeling of gratitude they feel upon opening these boxes. If you are compelled to give, or want to know more, follow the links below, and if you see Shirley or any of the OSOT volunteers, tell ’em we’re thinking of them here at The Home of Rock-N-Roll, & God Bless all the troops!
