58 years ago – In 1966, The Beatles played their last public concert, at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.
54 years ago – In 1970, “War“, by Edwin Starr, hit #1 on the pop singles chart.
47 years ago – In 1977, three people were arrested in Memphis, Tennessee, after trying to Steal Elvis’ Body. As a result of that incident, the King’s huge, bloated corpse was moved to Graceland.
37 years ago – In 1987, Los Lobos’ chubby Mexican remake of Ritchie Valens’ 1959 classic “La Bamba“ hit #1 on the pop singles chart.
28 years ago – In 1996, Isaac Hayes, who co-wrote the R&B classic “Soul Man“, sent a letter to presidential candidate Bob Dole asking Dole to stop using the song, which his supporters had changed to “I’m A Dole Man”.
27 years ago – In 1997, Netflix was founded. Back then it was just a DVD rental service. They didn’t start streaming until February of 2007.
21 years ago – In 2003, Will Arnett from “Arrested Development” married Amy Poehler from “Saturday Night Live”. They divorced in 2016.
19 years ago – In 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast . . . Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama . . . killing at least 1,800 people and flooding New Orleans after the levees broke.
15 years ago – In 2009, Mexico City set a Guinness World Record for the largest “Thriller” dance with a grand total of 13,597 people dancing like zombies.
11 years ago – In 2013, Fast Food Workers Went on Strike in 60 major U.S. cities to pressure McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, and KFC to increase their minimum wage to $15 per hour.
Eight years ago – In 2016, Gene Wilder passed away at age 83.
