Well, Tuesday saw another Amazon Prime day, the day that online shopping is supposed to be the best choice for buying all of your favorite things at the lowest possible prices. Great concept, and I must admit, that I am also one of those people that has a hard time passing up a great deal when I see it. Trying to stretch a dollar in today’s economy can take some serious searching and comparing, and who has time to go to a store anymore?
I am going to take a second and remind everyone what you all probably know already, shopping locally is more about what is good for us here, and sometimes choosing what is good for everyone is not necessarily what is best for the individual.
Now I am not saying you won’t find better deals locally, because you most certainly will. What I am saying is that the majority of the shopping that I have done online, has been out of convenience, more than for a great bargain. I mean, I might save a dollar online versus the local retailer, but come on, it’s like that commercial with the old guy and his fishing pole, “I saved you a dollar…..” Our friends, our families, and our neighbors work locally, and their jobs and their ability to add to our local economy depend on each of us to do the right thing, and shop locally.
That is why we are supporting an initiative this Thursday, to help compete with “Prime Day”, and that is our “Premiere Day”.
This Thursday, hit a local clothing store, drop by a coffee shop, go car shopping at a local dealership. After you have done all of that, stop at a local restaurant for a bite to eat, you’ve earned it! It will be good for you to get out and check out what our local community has to offer. Maybe you’ll find a new favorite local place, and best of all, you’ll be contributing to our local economy, which is good for all of us!
