Back in the Day…

So I was perusing the old “On this day in history” files when I came across some Zeptember 26th notables.  Here are a handful you may remember well.

In 1960, the First Televised Presidential Debate took place in Chicago, between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon.  In 1962, The Beverly Hillbillies debuted on CBS.  It was one of the hottest shows on the tube for it’s first two seasons.  Elly May sunning by the cement pond…who wouldn’t love it?  But sitcoms got, er, better still, right?   In 1964, Gilligan’s Island debuted on CBS, and in keeping with nautical theme debuted Hawaii Five-O”

It was ’69 when the Brady Bunch  hit the scene, same years of The Beatles  Abbey Road” release.  In 1970, Rubber Duckie, by Ernie from “Sesame Street”, peaked at #16 on the pop singles chart.

In 1975, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” opened in L.A. theaters . . . and it’s still a cult classic.  Matter of fact, I’d kinda like to do the time warp right now…

In 1982, Knight Rider debuted on NBC.   Talking car and David Hasselhoff.  Well, it WAS the 80’s…

In 1983, Motley Crue released “Shout at the Devil”.    I gotta think the Crue is more popular today than Knight Rider re-runs, but then again…

There may be more items of little or no historical significance tied to today’s date, but I feel we covered the real interesting ones here. Thanks for visiting, talk to ya on the radio!
