The State of College Football

by Gary Newell posted Jul 19 2011 1:22PM

Not so long ago USC was at the top. Then the NCAA sanctions came, after a lengthy investigation. Next was Ohio State. Now they are looking at Oregon. I find interesting the scrutiny that is coming into play these days. The real truth is that every major program in the country has similar situations. Auburn somehow escaped the wrath last year while headed to the national title game.  With just a few weeks to go before the players (students) report to school, it makes you wonder what will happen this year. Will more major programs fall? How much will these investigations affect what happens on the field? No one can really answer these questions. But I personally hope they just play ball! Don’t fool yourself; college football is a BIG, BIG business. I just hope the politics don’t consume the love for the game that us fans share.
